Good questions
The ones that come up most
How much does a garage door repair cost?
It depends on the door and what the job needs, so we come and look before we quote rather than guess over the phone. You get a firm number before any work starts, and the estimate itself is free.
Do you repair garage doors, or only replace them?
Both, and most of our calls are repairs. A broken spring, a worn cable or roller, or an opener that has stopped are the common ones. When a door is genuinely past its life, we install a new one.
How soon can you come out?
Call and we will get you on the schedule for the earliest time that works. We are reachable Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm, and weekends by appointment.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, Z & Z is licensed and insured. It is a family-owned company run by Chris Zimmek, who has more than thirty years of experience on garage doors.
What areas do you cover?
We work out of Springfield across Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. Coverage includes Agawam and Feeding Hills, Northampton and Enfield. If your town is not listed, call to ask.
My garage door spring broke. What should I do?
Leave a closed door down and stop using the opener. Keep clear of an open or unstable door and avoid pulling the emergency release under it. Our spring repair page explains replacement and sizing.
Can opener trouble be repaired without a new motor?
A remote, keypad or sensor can have its own fault. A working wall button also does not rule out radio or lock-mode problems. See opener repair for the symptoms that help distinguish them.
How do I compare a repair with a new garage door?
Consider the panels, tracks, lifting hardware and availability of suitable parts. A failed spring on a sound door is different from extensive panel damage. Our installation guide explains the fit and choices involved in replacement.
Is a crooked door safe to use?
Stop operating it and keep the opening clear. A cable, roller or track problem can leave the door unstable. Cable and roller repair covers what needs inspection.
Does a new garage door require a new opener?
Not automatically. The opener's condition, safety features and compatibility with the selected door and track arrangement determine whether it can stay. Ask for opener work to be identified separately in the estimate.
Still not sure?
Call and describe what the door is doing. We can arrange a free estimate for the work needed.
